Calvados is an apple brandy which has been made in the Normandy
area of France since the 1500s. The apples are fermented
and the product distilled twice. The distillate is then matured
in oak for at least 6 to 10 years for a standard Calvados. Vallee
d'Auge Calvados has its own Appellation Controlee. So has Calvados
Domfrontais blended from approximately 70% pears and 30% apples. These
single vintage Calvados we are offering are outstanding products
(someone had to do the tasting) - superb post-prandial digestive
drinks. In America similar but inferior products are known
as applejack. |
